Job Title: Assistant Head
Salary Grade: L3-L7
Actual Salary: £54,394 – 60,145
Working Pattern: Full time
Contract: Fixed Term 1 Term
Required From: September 2025
Personal attributes
Leyland Methodist Infant School has been a federation of Leyland Methodist Infant and Leyland Methodist Junior School, since 2019. It is a larger than average school, taking 70 children a year. The numbers have been consistent over time, however the current reception cohort has seen a drop in numbers for the first time. This number has declined due to low birth rates in the area.
There has been recent changes to the Senior Leadership team, with a new Executive Headteacher taking post September 2024.
There are two Heads of School, one in the Infant School and one based in the Junior School. There are also two assistant Headteachers. The school has stable staffing at all levels.
There has been a small change to inward and outward mobility, due to the asylum seekers who stay in a local hotel. The majority of pupils are of White British heritage and come from a mixed socio-economic background. The proportion of pupils who are considered to be disadvantaged is in line with the national average. The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities is in line with the national average. Currently, 18% of children are eligible for FSM (National 23.8%). The IDACHI rating for Leyland Methodist Infant School sits within the average bands for 80% of children, with 20% of children falling within the lowest 20%.
As a senior leader within Epworth Education Trust, the Head of School will work in close partnership with the Executive Headteacher and Local Advisory Board (LAB) to establish and implement the vision and strategic direction of the school. While the Executive Headteacher holds overall legal responsibility, the Head of School will play a key role in ensuring the school’s ethos and values are embedded in daily practice. This is an opportunity to demonstrate inspirational leadership, creativity, and a commitment to excellence, ensuring that Leyland Methodist Schools continue to thrive as a place where every pupil and staff member can be the very best they can be.
If you are an aspiring or experienced school leader looking to make a real difference in this supportive community, we would love to hear from you.
